ISSUE:
Set "Keyboard Layout" BIOS Setting to English on HP devices. SOLUTION A Powershell script that uses the HP_BIOSSettingInterface WMI class. $BIOSPassword = "Your BIOS Password" $BIOSSettingName = "Select Keyboard Layout" $BIOSSettingValue = "English" ISSUE
Create a collection with all computers named ComputerName0030, ComputerName0031, ComputerName0032,..., ComputerName0073 SOLUTION WQL Quey for the collection membership: select SMS_R_System.ResourceId, SMS_R_System.Name, SMS_R_System.HardwareID from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.Name like "ComputerName003[0-9]" or SMS_R_System.Name like "ComputerName004[0-9]" or SMS_R_System.Name like "ComputerName005[0-9]" or SMS_R_System.Name like "ComputerName006[0-9]" or SMS_R_System.Name like "ComputerName007[0-3]" I wanted to create a shortcut to a local folder "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Self Service" on users desktop via GPO. Group Policy will not create a File System Object direct to the foder. In order to create the shortcut via GPO (Computer Configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Shortcuts), the shortcut should be configured with the following settings:
When upgrading a MECM, the Windows ADK is often upgraded as well. After the upgrade, the custom boot images must be updated to the current Windows PE version of the new Windows ADK. After the boot image is upgraded, the drivers, optional components, and Windows PE background must be reconfigured. Therefore, it is important that these settings are documented before the custom boot image is updated. Unfortunately, after the MECM update, these boot image properties tabs are no longer available.
With the following PS Script it is possibleto get the Version Info of the latest availabe BIOS Update. When running the script directly on the hardware in question no parameter is requiered. When runing it for another hardware the Baseboard Part Number (Product) defined by the manufacturer (WMI Class: Win32_BaseBoard) from the hardware is required. function Get-BIOSUpdate { param ( [string]$Platform ) # Check if platform provided if ($Platform) { $platform = $platform.ToUpper() } else { $params = @{ ClassName = 'Win32_BaseBoard' Namespace = 'root\cimv2' } $obj = Get-CimInstance @params -ErrorAction stop $platform = $obj.Product.ToUpper() } # Get BIOS Info from HP web site $uri = [string]"$Url/{0}/{0}.xml" -f $platform $data = Invoke-WebRequest -Uri $uri [xml]$doc = [System.IO.StreamReader]::new($data.RawContentStream).ReadToEnd() $refined_doc = $doc.SelectNodes("//BIOS/Rel") | Select-Object -Property @{ Name = 'Ver'; expr = { $_.Ver.TrimStart("0") } },'Date','Bin','RB','L','DP' | Sort-Object -Property Ver -Descending $LatestBIOS = $refined_doc[0] Write-Output $LatestBIOS } Example 1: Get-BIOSUpdate
Example 2: Get-BIOSUpdate -Platform "854A" The HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) has reached end of support this month (June 2022). No relpacement is planned. The BCU Tool is supposed to be working for older HP products launched before April 2022. HP BCU will not be tested and therefore should not be used with new products launched after March 2022.
In order to continue to manage HP BIOS after June 2022, the HP Client Management Script Library should be used instead. More inormation can be found here. When checking Group Policy ona aclient with gpresult sometimes the GPO setting value is not readable. As an example when checking the Control Panel Setting "SettingsPageVisiability" result got by executing gpresult /z on the client this is shown as: By using PowerSHell the setting can be encoded and made readible.
[Array]$GPOResultValue = Num1, Num2, Num3, ... [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetString($GPOResultValue) When working as a consultant sometimes you run into an intune environment that is not documented. Instead of doing it manually you could use a powershell script and have it done in no time. The script is "Invoke-ConditionalAccessDocumentation". It will document:

In order to eliminate this security risk the dbutil_2_3.sys file that can be located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp has to be removed either manually or by running the Dell Security Advisory Update – DSA-2021-088 utility.
